A modular kitchen is not a set of shiny doors — it is a storage and workflow plan that happens to have doors on it. Nepali cooking uses large vessels, pressure cookers, sacks of rice and a lot of daal-bhat volume, and a kitchen copied from a foreign catalogue will not hold any of it. We plan around what you cook, then choose the finish.
The work triangle, and Nepali reality
Sink, stove and fridge should form a short triangle so you are not walking the length of the room mid-cooking. Beyond that, a Nepali kitchen needs deep drawers for large vessels rather than shallow shelves, a dry area for sacks and containers, and counter space beside the stove where a hot pressure cooker can actually be set down. These are decided before any cabinet is ordered.
Materials that survive a wet kitchen
The carcass matters more than the shutter. Ordinary MDF near a sink swells and never recovers. We use moisture-resistant board or marine ply for the carcass in wet zones and keep the cheaper board for dry upper units where it is safe. Counters are granite or quartz; edges are sealed. Hinges and channels take the daily abuse, so soft-close hardware from a known brand is worth more than a fancier door finish.
Ventilation, the part people skip
Nepali cooking produces a lot of steam and oil. Without a chimney ducted outside — not just recirculating through a filter — that oil ends up on your cabinet doors and ceiling within a year, and the modular finish that sold you on the kitchen looks tired fast. We plan the duct route at design stage because retrofitting one through a finished wall is ugly and expensive.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a modular kitchen take?
Usually three to five weeks from final design sign-off — most of that is fabrication, with installation taking a few days. If plumbing or electrical points are moving, add a little time for that work and for the wall to be made good.
Can you fit a modular kitchen in a small space?
Yes, and small kitchens often benefit most because every centimetre gets planned. Tall units, pull-out corner fittings and full-height storage recover space that an open shelf layout wastes.
Do you replace only the shutters?
If the carcass is sound, yes — new shutters and hardware on existing boxes is much cheaper than a full kitchen. We check the carcass first, particularly under the sink, and will tell you if the boxes are too far gone for that to be worth doing.
